Paleo refers to the paleolithic period in history, a prehistoric era where early humans (hunter gatherers) resided. This period extends from approximately 2.5 million years ago through to 20,000 years ago. An ENORMOUS period of time. The Paleo diet principles are based on foods that were consumed by our hunter gatherer ancestors and that science and personal experience indicates we are best adapted to consume.
A moderate amount of nutritious fats are included in the diet – Yes Fats! Trans fats are eliminated from the diet and polyunsaturated fats are minimised with a balanced ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fats. This combination of nutrients is the approximate diet followed by our ancestors for the longest period in history – OBESITY was unknown throughout this era.
